Important Information: traditional recoil-operated semiautomatic pistols such as standard glock-pattern handguns, revolvers, bolt-action, lever-action, pump-action, single-shot, .22lr and semiauto shotguns with a tube magazine do not require the ssf purchasing license
COLORADO CUSTOMER NOTICE: Beginning August 1, 2026, transfer of certain firearms to a Colorado transferee may require completion of the Colorado’s SB25-003 Firearms Safety Program and dealer verification through the Firearms Safety System. Please visit the Colorado Parks and Wildlife Specified Semiautomatic Firearms page to apply, obtain your sheriff-issued eligibility card, find an approved instructor, and complete the required course. We must verify your completion in the state system before beginning final transfer.
OUT OF STATE SALES: Colorado provides an exception for a transfer to an out-of-state-resident. Federal interstate transfer rules still apply, and all firearms must be shipped or transferred in compliance with federal law and the buyer’s state law but will not require the Colorado safety course. Final classification and transfer eligibility will be confirmed before delivery. Handguns, receivers, SBRs, and similar firearms must be transferred through an FFL in your state of residence.
A Colorado concealed handgun permit, concealed-carry class or other private firearms course does not substitute for the SB25-003 course pathway. Hunter education alone is also not sufficient and must be paired with the Basic SSF Course
SB25-003 is a transfer law and not a possession law and will not affect firearms already in your possession. If you intended to sell an SSF in your possession you (The Seller) and the purchaser will be required to have the license for person-to-person transfers through a licensed FFL. The license is not required to sell to an FFL or for transfer to an FFL for Gunsmithing/Maintenance work. Silencers/Suppressor are not affected by SB25-003
